Georgia K–2 Science — Verified Source Registry ★ GOLDEN EXEMPLAR

This is the quality bar. Per founder directive (2026-06-03), every future curriculum research run — any county, any state — must match this depth and rigor: current-vs-replaced resolution, primary-source-only with exact URLs, verbatim codes + descriptions, provenance dates, district pacing sequences, and honest "not found in an official source" gaps. See the acceptance rubric in 00-Curriculum-Service.md → "Research Output Standard." The discovery step will automate finding this. Captured here as the verified seed for the GA pilot and the Phase-2 fixture. Source = a CASE v1p1 structured API (machine-readable JSON), not PDFs.

Current standards (currency resolved)

  • Name: Science — Georgia Standards of Excellence (GSE) for Science (K-12).
  • Adopted: 2016 · State Board approval: June 9, 2016 · Effective: 2017–2018.
  • In effect for 2025–2026: YES. "Georgia's K-12 Science Standards" did NOT replace K–2 GSE (no official source found).
  • Publisher: Georgia Department of Education (GaDOE), via the SuitCASE platform.

Authoritative source (CASE v1p1 API — structured JSON)

  • Master platform: https://case.georgiastandards.org/
  • Science CFPackage (whole framework): https://case.georgiastandards.org/ims/case/v1p1/CFPackages/27a08dc6-416e-11e7-ba71-02bd89fdd987 (CFDocument lastChange 2025-05-29)
  • Grade nodes (CFItems):

Standard codes + official descriptions (the catalog seed)

Kindergarten

  • SKE1 — time patterns (day/night) and objects (sun, moon, stars) in the day and night sky.
  • SKE2 — physical attributes of earth materials (soil, rocks, water, air).
  • SKP1 — describe objects by the materials they're made of and physical attributes.
  • SKP2 — compare and describe different types of motion.
  • SKL1 — how organisms (alive/not alive) and non-living objects are grouped.
  • SKL2 — similarities and differences in groups of organisms.

Grade 1

  • S1E1 — weather data to identify weather patterns.
  • S1P1 — investigate light and sound.
  • S1P2 — effects of magnets on other magnets and objects.
  • S1L1 — basic needs of plants and animals.

Grade 2

  • S2E1 — stars having different sizes and brightness.
  • S2E2 — patterns of the sun and moon; sun's effect on Earth.
  • S2E3 — how weather, plants, animals, humans cause changes to the environment.
  • S2P1 — properties of matter and changes in objects.
  • S2P2 — effect of a force (push/pull) on movement (speed and direction). ← the existing pilot pack topic
  • S2L1 — life cycles of different living organisms.

What this means for the build (Phase 2)

  • Fetch = call the CASE CFPackage/CFItems JSON for the grade → exact code + description (verbatim, authoritative).
  • Enrich (LLM) = add kid-title + objectives + vocabulary + misconceptions on top of the verbatim standard.
  • Pacing = parse the district maps for sequence (Fulton & Cobb above).
  • Vote/dedupe = Fulton + Cobb share the same GSE codes (confirmed) → one topic set, pacing differs (as predicted).
